The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) has started the construction of the 23.73-kilometer road connecting the two towns in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Zamboanga Sibugay first district Representative Sharky Palma had announced the start of the implementation of the P989.16-million road project in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENR) has not issued a tree cutting permit and clearance to the tourism road project that cuts through the mangrove area in Barangay Buluan in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said two major road projects in Zamboanga Sibugay under the “Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project” are expected to be completed in 2021.

The rehabilitation of the damaged portion of Dona Josefa Watershed and Protected Area in the municipality of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay is set to take place.

The request came from Hofer and the provincial government had identified the area as a tourism site, she explained.
