IPIL, Philippines — A law enforcement operation had resulted to the killing of the most wanted personality of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay along with his companion Saturday.
The police identified the slain suspect as Jomar Aukasa and his companion, a certain Buchoy.
Aukasa, according to Brig. Gen. Bernabe Balba, Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force acting chief, has four standing warrants of arrest for murder and another one for robbery.
The police listed Aukasa as the 5th Most Wanted Person on Zamboanga Peninsula. He has links with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and acted as facilitator and financier of kidnapping activities.
Aukasa had escaped from police custody in 2018, wounding PO3 Rommel de la Cruz as he fled.
On Saturday, the combined elements of the 5th Special Action Battalion, Zamboanga Sibugay police, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion served the warrants of arrest for Aukasa at 2:30 p.m. in Sisay village, Tungawan.
But Aukasa and companion reportedly resisted arrest, prompting the law enforcers to engage the two in a firefight.
Investigators had recovered from the suspects a Belgian-made Fabrique National (FN) rifle, Glock 17 pistol, and ammunition.
The Glock 17 pistol is a police property. Aukasa grabbed the same pistol from PO1 Muhammad Nur Alamia when he escaped the Tungawan municipal jail two years ago.
