A Dumaguetnon working in Abu Dhabi was one of two fatalities in a gas explosion last Monday, August 31.

Merriner Bartoces, 25, single, of Purok Maisan, Camanjac, Dumaguete City, was on duty that day as the cashier at the KFC store at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road (airport road) in Abu Dhabi when the gas explosion happened.

The blast had also destroyed several shops, resulting in multiple injuries.

Her body was among those recovered underneath the rubble the following day.

Bartoces’ aunt posted on social media that they were informed by the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Hjayceelyn Quitana, about the recovery of her niece’s body.

She had earlier asked for help from netizens in looking for her niece as they lost contact with her after they heard of news about the explosion.

The Philippine Embassy is working with Bartoces’ agency in repatriating her remains back to the Philippines.
