The Department of Transportation (DOTr) had announced the completion of Ipil Airport in Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.
The airport’s Passenger Terminal Building is “100% complete,” the DOTr, in its social media post on Nov. 28, said.
Also completed was the extension and widening of the runway, it added.
The new airport will serve as a gateway of Zamboanga Sibugay to some of the country’s cities such as Cebu, Zamboanga, and Davao.
Before the project, travelers had to contend at least three hours of land travel to existing airports. The three cities of the Zamboanga Peninsula – Zamboanga, Dipolog, and Pagadian – have airports.
The DOTr said the newly-finished airport could help improve the residents’ mobility and connectivity with other cities. (Mindanao Sun/ Featured Image: DOTr)
