Zamboanga City’s Agriculture Office reported that heavy rain and flash flood Sunday night have wrought some P2.8-million damage to crops in several villages of the city.

In its report to City Mayor Beng Climaco, the agriculture office said a low pressure area has spawned heavy rains and flash floods.

The rain with strong winds had also flooded streets, destroyed several stilt houses, and knocked down trees.

In Culianan village, the rain caused damage to at least 75 hectares of rice fields.

The regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA 9), in a post on its social media page, said it is still validating the reported damage to crops.

Climaco has directed the disaster risk reduction office to be on alert.

She also called on the barangay-based disaster risk reduction units to monitor the situation on the ground.

The mayor advised the public to help monitor the situation in their respective areas.
