Fifty-one soldiers have received medals for their “exemplary actions during encounters” against the communist New People’s Army in their area under the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion in Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, conferred the medals in rites held at the 62nd IB headquarters in Barangay Libas, Isabela on September 08.
On August 14, the scout platoon elements of 62IB while conducting community security patrols had two separate encounters against some 35 members of NPA guerrillas at Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.
The series of encounters resulted to the killing of one rebel identified as Rickim Marosino Remasog and the arrest of another red fighter identified as Rennel Remasog. Both are residents at Sitio Compound, Brgy Luz, Guihulngan City.
The Army troops had also recovered one Rifle Cal .22 Carbine M1; one Gauge 12 Shotgun; two Cal .45 pistols; several cellular phones; three cartridge cases of 40mm high explosives; one unit commercial radio; and other war materials and paraphernalia.
Pasaporte lauded the “bravery and selfless dedication of the troops.”
“I want to recognize your efforts and may this simple recognition inspire you to do more,” he said.
The medals, he told the troops, are symbols of “your selfless dedication and bravery.”
He urged them to continue “without let-up in going after the Communist NPA Terrorists.” (amm)
