Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — Two grade 6 pupils from Ipil Special Education Center are set to compete to the Regional Metro Bank Math Challenge Competition or the Math Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) Finals representing the Division of Zamboanga Sibugay held in Zamboanga City today.
Louise Margaret M. Muyargas, and Jhullienne Vielle E. Aglobo with their official coach Juliette A. Fernandez, who represented Ipil SPED Center during the Division Finals conducted on February 7 obtained the highest score of 38 in the team category besting other schools in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Meanwhile, Muyargas will also be competing in the individual category after emerging as number one at the Division level in the written exam during the elimination round with a score of 38 points.
Based on the criteria set by Metro Bank and MTAP, those obtaining an individual score of 25 points and above in the written exam will automatically become qualified to the regional competition.
In December last year, Muyargas was awarded by the Turkish Tolerance School in Zamboanga City for obtaining the highest score in the whole of Region 9 in the written exam for the Math Challenge which the school sponsored.
The Metrobank Math Challenge in partnership with the Department of Education (DEPED) and MTAP is an annual event to develop the students’ interest in Mathematics and enhance their skills. (Daphne Santuyo)
